Funny Preschoolers & Fathers Day

This year we made a Cook Book for all the dad's in the class. We asked the kids "What does your Dad cook & how does he cook it?" We typed up their answers, made a booklet and gave it to each of the families. Here were some of my favorites:

"My Pa does whatever my grandma tells him. He cooks everything that's good. He uses toms. Then it cooks and he puts on salt."

"He wears a chef hat and a chef outfit. He uses the thing that are like scissors but you use them for salads. And he puts it on the BBQ. And then we eat it."

"He barbecue's steak. I think he burns it a little bit and that is all. He buys it at Vons. He puts on salt. I think he uses a big air pump thing to cook it. He makes it good. He fires it and a tiny bit burns."
Haha, don't the gas tanks have a close resemblance to helium tanks?

They are out for the summer now and most of them will be in Kindergarten next year. I will miss their funniness but look forward to the next group of kids.

What preschoolers call the egg yolk...

Since Easter I started noticing some of the preschoolers referring to the egg yolk (that they of course don't like) to a few different things. Here are some of their responses to "What do you call this part of the boiled egg?" The first response is my favorite:

"The animal"
"The seed"
"The apricot"
"The baby"
"The chicken"
"The ball"
"The hatch"

When I grow up I wanna be....

This week was my first week back to work. I went from 30 hours to 20 hours so it's a nice break to be out of the house and not miss Rosie too much and at the same time do what I love-teach preschoolers. It was a very warm welcome. The kids made a sign and colored it for me and there were a couple of girls and one teacher :) that were extra excited to see me.

Today at work I gathered some quotes from the kiddos. The topic? Career Plans. I asked them "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Here are some of their responses.

"When I grow up I wanna be ..... a cooker and a babysitter."

"When I grow up I wanna be ...... a BEAR! No, actually I want to be a hunter. I want to go to the African savanna and shoot a cheetah."

"When I grow up I wanna be .....a hunter like he."

"When I grow up I wanna be .....a wifeguard."

"When I grow up I wanna be .....a police."

"When I grow up I wanna be .....a mommy."

"When I grow up I wanna be .....a fairy."

"When I grow up I wanna be .....still little so I don't miss my mommy."

I loved the African Savanna one! What was your favorite? Do you remember what you wanted to be when you were little? I wanted to be a teacher. In fact, I'd make my little brother play school with me. He played until he got sick of doing the homework I gave him :)

How babies come out....according to preschoolers

Since I found out I'm pregnant things like sleeping, resting, being emotional and nesting have come before my blog. Sorry about that. I do have a list of posts I'd like to complete before Rosie (Yes, we are having a girl and her name will be Rosie Noella) comes. No promises. But I'll try.

Anyways, being visibly pregnant sure has stirred up lots of questions about how babies are born. Mrs. Wimberly and I like to keep it simple in our responses or turn the questions around on them. For example, when asked "How will the baby get out?" We like to respond by saying "Through a small opening in the body." Usually that's enough for their curious little minds and they run off to something new.

But recently that WAS NOT the case with one of our little girls. I gave her my usual answer, and she was quiet for second. Then she asked "But where is the opening?" I said, "That's a good question that you should ask your mommy." Still not satisfied, she questioned further, "But do you know where it is?" Smiling at her consistency, I answered "Yes I do." "Is it the same as my mommy's?" "Yes, it's the same for all mommies." And then motioning her hands in circles she said, "Well can you just tell me what area of your body it is?" I was very impressed but told her she had to ask her mommy. Normally, I don't get the 2nd degree about how babies come out (from this age group) but this preschooler was something else.

Here are some my favorite answers when it comes to me turning the question on them:

"I think she's just going to crawl out of your throat"
"She will come through here (points to knee)"
"The doctor will just cut your tummy and take the baby out and then sew you back up" (Yea, easy for you c-section moms to explain!)
"The doctor will unzip your back and then take the baby out and zip you back up"
"She will come through your belly button"

Today one of the preschoolers was seriously concerned for my life when he said:
"But Ms. Heather I don't want you to die."
"Why do you think I will die?"
"Well if the baby comes out through your eye, then you will die."
"Don't worry. She will not come out through my eye. God will take care of me. He always does what's best for His children."

If it were my own preschooler asking, I may respond with a bit more specificity. That would of course accompany a conversation about how that's "special" information that not all mommies and daddy's want their kids to know-so for now-it's only something to talk about at home. Since they are not my kids, I go about it this way, and at the end of the day let their parents know that they are interested in how babies come out. Seems the safest way to me so far.

It's been fun being pregnant with the kids. Since Rosie has been kicking more frequently throughout the day, some of the kids have been really excited when they feel her move. I love explaining how God is growing her in my tummy and how she'll come when God makes her ready. Well, stop by again if you all haven't left already. I hope to have some more posts up soon!

Yellow water with a brown spot

So last night I was babysitting and I don't know why but this little toilet just really made me laugh. The toy? A miniature toilet for a doll house. When you first pick it up, you see it's cute and pink. It even has a miniature roll of toilet paper hanging off the side! (why are small things so cute?) Inside the toilet bowl, there is blue water inside. But watch out! When you push down on the little nob, there's a surprise! The flip side of the blue water is yellow water with a brown spot in the middle! Did you hear me? I said YELLOW WATER with a BROWN SPOT in the middle! So much for being cute and dainty! That's what barbies do (or should I say "doo"?). Anyways, I first took the picture because I knew my husband would love it, but then I thought I'd share with you guys out there too! Here are the pictures:

What are some funny/shocking/interesting/crazy toys you've seen?

"It's Abstract."

All of January I am filling in for a teacher that is recovering from surgery. Though I truly miss the kiddos in my regular class, I am definitely enjoying being with this group of kids. Especially, one in particular…

From time to time there is usually a kid a or two that you know if the show “Kids say the darndest things” were still on these kids would totally make Bill Cosby laugh. Well that’s Katie! Whenever she’s on the playground it’s a treat to be in her area because I know the things she’s saying will entertain me. So let me share some things she’s said with YOU:

Me: Katie needs a little help cleaning in the kitchen area
Katie: Yea a woman like me can’t do it ALL by myself!

Mom was about to take her art project home….
Katie: Mom, I wasn’t finished with that.
Mom: Okay I’ll leave it here.
Katie: (shaking her head) She just doesn’t get it

After eating birthday cookies with her classmates:
My birthday is a big hit!”

(Grandma brought in the cookies)
My grandmother has excellent taste.”

After putting on a princess dress & shoes…
“I got my trick or treat costume. Kids are gonna FREAK OUT when they see I’m givin’ out candy!”

Another day after putting on a princess dress….
Katie: Trevor, will you dance with me?
Trevor: No.
Katie: Okay this is the last time I’m going to ask. Will you dance with me?
Trevor: No.
Katie: Okay this is really the last time I’m going to really ask you. Will you dance with me?
Trevor: No.
Me: I wonder if any of the boys are coming today?
Katie: I hope not because they are noisy. I told them ‘how would you like it if I went to Crescent City where it’s quieter?’

A song by Katie called “The Rocks”

It’s a lifetime of liiiife.
It’s a liiifetime of cake.
And it’s a lifetime of snowman.

Me: why did you name it “The Rocks”?
Katie: because it ROCKS to have your own song.

A picture by Katie:

Me: Tell me about your picture.
Katie: It’s Abstract
Me: Well, what does that mean?
Katie: It means ya don’ have to paint any in particular.

My art teacher in college would have loved that. Preschoolers pick up more than their ABC's at this age. They can learn what an organic shapes are, they can understand what a term like "abstract" means and apply it too. This is a special age where they are soaking things up. It should be no surprise to me that kids say things like Katie but every time it continues to crack me up. Well, Happy Monday! And if you have the day off like I do...ENJOY!!!

Baby Talk

I remember when my nephew was first learning to talk. When someone would walk in the door, he'd greet them with some baby babble and continue doing what he was doing. Can you imagine what a talker this little girl must be by now?! Happy Monday!

American Idol: Kids Edition

Since Adoption Awareness Month I haven’t quite got back into the Monday humor posts again. Sorry if you missed them but they are back! This one is funny. If you love Jason Mraz like I do (Capa & Serena) then you will love the little boy at 2:42!
